What You Need KNOW To SAVE THOUSANDS On Your Next Car Purchase!
60
The worst thing to do is going through the purchase details of your new car in a finance office of a dealership, not fun! Money and how much of it can he stuff into his pocket (or his dealership) is the only thing the dealer is concerned with. He (sales manager) will fear you because you are an informed and prepared customer. I will show you four simple things, which I used, to save me over a couple of THOUSANDS on my car!
Do Your Homework
Don’t ever set foot in a dealership without going onto to the internet and find everything you can about your car make and model. Check your local private listings and note down the price for the exact vehicle you were looking at. With this knowledge, you can set a firm price for the car. You can expect to save one to two thousands below the stickered price when the negotiating begins. Remember to stay firm and never reveal your maximum budget number to him (the sales manager). If he gave you a price, say “too high”. Always too high….and never too low!
Be Diligent
Once the price is finalized (aim for at least $1500 below sticker price), take the itemized listing of fees and make the loan officer break down every single item on there. Any fees that were listed as “administrative” make him take these off! If it is not for tax, tag or title related, make them take those off as well. Some of those “administrative” costs can add up to HUNDREDS of dollars, totally unnecessary. Your number one goal here is to get the price of the vehicle as low as you can!
Dealership Perks
There will never be enough perks, so make sure you ask for all of them. You work hard for your money and especially with this economy, you will need to squeeze that penny extra harder. Do not, and I repeat DO NOT drive the car off the lot without a full tank of gas. With the gas prices on the rise, this will make that penny last even longer. They will probably already have your car cleaned, but you WANT a FULL DETAILED job! Also, ask them for free oil changes, that’s right plural! Maybe for the first 25,000–50,000 miles or a full year is good. The free oil changes alone will save you HUNDREDS, which you can put in a high interest yield bank. Make them add in your first vehicle inspection and standard maintenance care scheduled too. Another few hundred SAVED!
Let's Talk About Financing
Haggle with the lending team at the dealership and make sure you get all the agreed upon perks in writing, then let them know you are using your bank for financing. Doing so will definitely get the finance officer ticked off, but you’re here to buy a car, not keep finance officers happy! By going with your bank, means that you have ALREADY looked at the figures before setting foot into the dealership. You would want to wait for what they were offering during the financing negotiations, in which you will learn about the fees and charges. This will be best time to get the perks you wanted, remember don’t be shy about asking for perks!
Enjoy Your Ride
Do what I have mentioned above and you will drive your car out of the lot, without feeling OH S#@$, I just got screwed! But instead you can smile to yourself that you made an informed purchase. DRIVE SAFE!
